The Rise of the Infographic
Infographics are popular these days. We see them all the time on everything from the ROI of our mothers (a classic infographic) to the history of computers. In a previous post, I wrote about the infographic resume and a company known as Vizualize.me that can help job seekers create their very own infographic resume. However, the company still appears to be in Beta and actually getting access to create an infographic resume is proving pretty difficult. Then, along came the Brazen Careerist App for Facebook which is a cool little application that allows you to create an infographic resume but it also implements game mechanics by supplying you with badges for achievements such as the Richie Rich badge for working in one of the highest paid industries. The app is cool but it still has limitations and the export option produces a very blurry PDF document. Thus, for those who still haven’t created their very own infographic resume, I wanted to discuss another option, which so far, is my favorite.
Re.vu Infographic Online Tool
Re.vu (review) allows job seekers to import their LinkedIn profile information to create an infographic profile on the web. The tool allows you to display a summary, a career timeline, and several different types of infographics including job duties, skill evolution, proficiencies, quotes, percentages, past times, and interests over time. You can display your education, a portfolio, and work samples. Additionally, the tool gives you analytics to measure page views, average amount of time spent on site, contacts, resume views, and resume downloads. I created my own infographic page to try out the tool and found it to be very easy to use. I was limited in the types of documents I could upload for a portfolio and/or work samples section, but as a free tool, I couldn’t complain and it only took roughly 20 minutes to have an infographic profile complete. I like the new timeline much better than the old timeline and I added some links such as Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google Plus. You have tons of options. I really like this tool – it is very user friendly, intuitive, and creates very nice infographics.
I like these automated vehicles, but for how long will they be “enough”?
I went the whole hog and made my own with a designer. Thinking visually brought out a different side of my personality and, well, I liked it!
